What is the difference between traditional machine translation and modern AI translation?

Traditional machine translation translates texts directly from the source text into the target language. Modern AI translation goes beyond this by understanding relationships, taking context into account and adapting the writing style specifically.

This results in more natural and precise translations. In professional translation processes, AI is also combined with company knowledge such as terminology, translation memories, style guides and reference documents. This produces translations that are not only linguistically correct, but also technically accurate and compliant with the brand.

This offers companies:

  • Greater understanding of context: AI takes the context of an entire document into account instead of considering individual sentences in isolation.
  • Higher translation quality: Terminology, corporate language and style guidelines are incorporated directly into the translation.
  • Less post-editing: More precise results reduce the effort required for quality assurance.
